Real Hot Girl, Trip

This past weekend I took a girls trip to one of my favorite places. This destination just so happens to be in my home state, the city of New Orleans. The weekend was decided on months ago but no real details were planned until more recently. Friday night we arrived and decided on a girls night in with catch- up convos and cocktails poolside at our Airbnb. Saturday morning we met for brunch at one of my favorite spots, Cafe Palace. They have one of the best Mimosa and Bloody Mary bars, not to mention their shrimp and grits is mouth watering, literally.

Saturday, we attended an annual festival called the LilWeezyana Fest. Rap legend, Lil Wayne hosted this festival. If you’ve never attended or heard of it before, picture Coachella meets Louisiana culture in a city that has some of the best food- period.

The festival featured performances from Kash Doll, Saweetie, Megan Thee Stallion, Travis Scott, Meek Mill, Trey Songz (no he didn’t sing the new version of Powers’ theme song), and of course Lil Wayne. Jeremy and were born and raised in Louisiana and both grew up on Cash money records artist music. For this reason, I was super hype about the festival, not to mention the rest of the artist were some of our faves.

Although the festival was fun, hot as hell (literally heat index over 100 degrees) but the highlight for me was the next day. Sunday, we explored a bit of the French quarter, reminisced on previous times we’ve spent in the city and took in the beauty the New Orleans is.

Café Du Monde is a staple in New Orleans. The warm, heavily powdered beignets tasted better than I remembered. It’s almost impossible to not have remnants of powdered sugar somewhere it shouldn’t be, even with being super careful, so just go with it.

Also, although hot tea is my first love, I’ve become quite the coffee drinker of the past few years. I blame it on corporate America, long work days and it not being socially appropriate to have a cocktail at 10 am, so coffee it is. (Jokes, maybe). Anyhow, I don’t remember having coffee at Café Du Monde the last few times I was there, but I did this weekend. I really liked it, so I purchased that and a box of beignet mix. I know Jeremy is interested to see how long it will be before these get used. I’m on the hunt for a French Press, so good recommendations are welcomed.

We ended the night at the venue I was the most excited about! I made reservations for the remainder of my girls that were in town at Jack Rose NOLA. This restaurant is known for it’s refined Cajun and Creole dished, with whimsical décor. We loved it. Jack Rose is located in the Garden District on the ground floor of the Pontchartrain Hotel. I am obsessed with interior design and décor, so for me, I fell in love with the French, transitional and eclectic style décor. The focal point of the lobby was the beautifully arranged gallery wall that was centered by the artist of the weekend himself, Dwayne Carter, aka Lil Wayne. This painting was so vibrant and detailed, down to his sparkling diamond encrusted grill.

The food was spot on. Everyone’s food, and cocktails were delicious and aesthetically appealing. From the appetizers, to the entrees, sides, cocktails and desserts were very pleased.

When dinner was finished, we were encouraged by the staff to visit their rooftop bar, Hot Tin. We were greeted by a portrait of an older lady having a cocktail and cigar.

The eclectic vibe continued.

Beautiful views overlooking a city with so much history, character and immense amounts of culture, what a high note to end our weekend. New Orleans, as always, I will return.

This is Where Life Meets Living.
